Full-Time Hoops All Freshman Team

Freshman of the Year - Ryan Langborg, 6-3 180 SG, La Jolla Country Day

La Jolla Country Day was the suprise team of the year in San Diego, and one could argue that Langborg was their most consistent player. Known as a shooter in his youth days, Lanborg came into his own as a complete scorer during his freshman year, averaging 13.2 ppg, good for second on the Torreys, while shooting 50% from the field and 47% from three. Langborg has become one of the most potent scorers in the 2019 class statewide, and for that, he is a clear choice for freshman of the year.

Jordan Hilstock- 6-2 165 G, Vista- The athletic combo guard quickly established himself as one of the elite on-ball defenders in the county, all while providing the diminutive Panthers with their lone rebounding presence. He turned it up in Avo West league play, averaging 14 ppg and 8.5 rpg during the 10 games, likely positioning himself to become the second freshman in two years from Vista to achieve al-league honors.

Rejean "Boogie" Ellis- 5-10 135 G, Mission Bay- Ellis' season started slow, but the turning

point came in the Surf N' Slam, when he averaged 14 points during the four games, and he never looked back. The sharpshooting guard has been an excellent complement to Justin Moore, Devin Hilliard and Jerome Sherman in the back court, and expect him to make a meteoric leap during his sophomore campaign.

Matt Bender- 6-7 200 PF, La Jolla Country Day- Bender made his mark early in the season with an excellent defensive effort against Grossmont C Tommy Rutherford in Country Day's surprise rout of the then No. 8 Foothillers. But Bender really made a statement during the Torreys last 10 games without Bruce Edwards, who has missed time with a hamstring strain and a concussion. Bender averaged 14 points and 12 rebounds during that stretch, and looked the part of the dominant interior man that he has the potential to become for the Torreys down the road.

Raymond Lu- 5-9 150 PG, La Jolla Country Day- Lu has been the steady leader of the Torreys since Day 1, when Alex Cho missed the beginning of the season due to injury. He has since supplanted Cho even since his return, and his averages of 5.8 ppg, 3.7 apg and 1.8 spg don't do his level of play justice.

Graham Cook- 6-2 160 G, La Costa Canyon- Cook worked his way into the starting lineup in late December, and has been a steady scorer for the Mavericks ever since. His 11 ppg average during his stretch as a starter are good for third on the team, and as the lone freshman on the varsity level, Cook is the clear future of the stories LCC program.

Christian Rose, 6-6 170 F, Bishop's- Rose's year started out rocky after the wiry forward

suffered two concussions during the tournament season. Since his return, however, Rose has consistently improved on both ends, offensively and defensively, averaging 10 ppg and 7 rpg, shooting 55% from the field. Rose has more upside that many players in the class, so his ascent will be exciting to watch.

Max Guinn, 6-5 180 W, La Jolla Country Day- The sharp shooting wing had a solid season in a reserve role for the Torreys, averaging 5.8 ppg and 3 rpg. Guinn hit big shots for the Torreys throughout the season, and provided another hybrid wing with size enough to battle on the block. Expect big things in the coming years from the prototype wing.

Dorian Blue, 6-1 150 G, Lutheran- While playing in a less competitive league, Blue had some

of his biggest games against better opponents: he scored 17 points in his debut versus Crean Lutheran, 22 points against San Juan Hills and 20 points against Moreno Valley in the Chapparal MLK Day Showcase. His 15.3 ppg and 8.1 apg averages were among the highest in the state for freshmen.
