Francis Parker's history has been loaded with great hoops talent, especially over the past 20 years.

Tyler Bernardini Evan Fitzner. Tim Harrison. Kimo Ferrari. Camden McCormick.

For the first time, however, the Lancers have something they didn't have in those players: the best player in the county.

That's Tavid Lee Johnson, the 6-3 junior guard who enters the season as my pick for San Diego Section Player of the Year.

In order to accomplish the feat, Johnson will have to get the Lancers over the hump in the Coastal League, where the player of the year last year wasn't Johnson, but Santa Fe Christian senior Dax Hall. Hall is one of several players who represents a legitimate challenger for Player of the Year honors, along with San Marcos senior Jalen Williams, Rancho Buena Vista's CJ Aldrich and Olympian Tristan Anderson.

Johnson, however, isn't alone on his Lancers squad when it comes to all-preseason accolades. The rapidly improving Ezekiel Walker, a 6-3 senior guard, has ascended to the top of the section's hoops talent pool and also appears on my preseason first team. Parker is one of five teams I anticipate will have two selections. The others include St. Augustine (Lincoln Grogan and Anthony Etheridge), San Marcos (Williams and Michael Brown), Victory Christian (Jayden Gray and Isaiah Owens) and Mira Mesa (seniors Tim Dorn and Diego Ortiz).

Here is my preseason All San Diego Team.
